Educational Advocate Near Me

Alexa Sherman

MEd, BCEA

Hello! I’m Alexa Sherman, founder of Alexa’s ABCS and a Board Certified Educational Advocate.

I hold a double Master’s degree in Special Education and General Education from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where I was proud to serve as a four-time captain of the Women’s Volleyball Team.

I’m happily married with two children and a playful yellow Lab, and I love spending time outdoors with my family, traveling, snowboarding, and playing volleyball whenever I can.

Before launching Alexa’s ABCS, I spent 11 years working in public education as a dedicated special education teacher, supporting preschool, elementary, and transition-age students in both self-contained and inclusive settings. I’ve served as a moderate/severe special education teacher, orthopedic impairment specialist, inclusion specialist, and response-to-intervention specialist, with a strong background in behavior support. I’m a licensed special education teacher in both California and Oregon.

Throughout my years as a case manager, I worked closely with students, families, and school teams to develop and implement individualized education plans that truly reflected each child’s unique strengths and needs. I’ve supported families through different stages—transitioning from IFSPs to IEPs, and from IEPs to life beyond school—and I continue to consult for districts, helping teachers create inclusive classrooms with meaningful accommodations and modifications for students with diverse needs.

Through my experience, I understand the challenges and frustrations families face when navigating the special education system for children with disabilities. I firmly believe that working as a team is the best way to support each child and their family. As an advocate, my mission is to protect children’s rights under IDEA and Section 504, ensuring they receive the services, accommodations, and protections they’re entitled to, while empowering parents and educators with the knowledge, tools, and collaboration they need for effective, meaningful advocacy.
